(Shoulder Pain Continued)
and torso it would allow his right shoulder blade to drop down, so I designed a corrective exercise program to help correct those deviations. If his shoulder dropped down it should allow more space in his actual shoulder joint. When we got done with his corrective exercise program I checked his deviations and sure enough the torso and pelvis twist were improved. No, the deviations were not completely better but there was significant improvement. And this fact is what amazes people. They always wonder how one session can make a change with their bodies. All I can tell you is that it does. If you provide the body with the right stimulus you’ll find that the body will adapt. By providing my clients with the proper corrective exercises, their bodies respond positively just as Mario’s did. When I had him lift his arm out to his side he only brought it to ninety degrees and stopped. Almost all of my clients will hesitate at the level that was causing pain. Mario was no different. But when I encouraged him to go past the point he actually got his arm over his head. With a look of disbelief, he said “You have got to be kidding me.” I just smiled and replied, “It’s what I do.”
When we were done I gave Mario a list of my findings to take to his
doctor. At our next appointment he told me what his doctor had to say
about what I pointed out. Basically what I considered to be deviations
his doctor considered to be the way Mario’s body was designed and
that there was nothing he could do about it. When I heard this I was
dumbfounded. Mario said he also asked him if he thought that the
misalignments might have caused his shoulder impingement. His
doctor told him that there was no correlation between his shoulder
diagnosis and the rotation in his torso and pelvis.
