Knee Pain
The Real Source of Your Knee Pain
What Your Health Care Professional Is Missing
A lot of times I feel like my work is about 80 percent education and 20 percent application. It seems to me that the average person is willing to try something to alleviate the pain or discomfort of an injury. Unfortunately very little of what they do is really aimed at recovery. We live in a society that accepts pain without trying to understand the underlying cause. Many of us think being able to cope with the pain is good enough. Thinking like this, we will usually just settle for methods of pain management or ways to minimize the impact of the symptoms, not realizing that our bodies are trying to tell us something. Usually our most aggravated symptoms started out as a whisper that we chose to ignore. Now your body is yelling at you to do something different. Are you going to listen or settle?
To get a better understanding of what I mean, I will give you an
example of the consequences of settling. Often I see people wearing
knee braces while running or playing other sports. So many people
are wearing them now that I often wonder if it was recommended by a
health care professional or if the person picked it up from a pharmacy
or sporting goods store after being diagnosed by a friend or just
seeing other people wearing them. It really bothers me to think of how
many people are causing more damage without even knowing it. They
think the brace is protecting the knee but in fact their knee is taking
even more abuse. It is almost like taking pain relievers. The pain is
minimized so you think you are better. You feel better so you increase
your activities. What you might not realize is that pain is like
It band syndrome
Osteoarthritis
